II EDITION “UNO Y ÚNICO” – BETTACAN

First IBC District Show – BETTACAN
📍 Cultural Center of Guía de Isora (Tenerife)
📅 November 20–23, 2025
Organized by: BETTACAN (by the International Betta Congress – IBC)

1. Participation requirement (own breeding)

Only bettas bred by the participant may compete. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the immediate disqualification of the specimen, the participant, and all their registered fish.
👉 The organization may request photos or videos of the juvenile stage or of the parents as proof of own breeding.

2. Registration, fees and payment

• Registration deadline: November 15, 2025, or until all 200 tanks are filled.

• Initial limit: 15 fish per participant.

• If by November 5 not all tanks are filled, the organization will allow registration to be extended up to a maximum of 25 fish per participant, until the 200 tanks are completed and in order of form submission.

• Online form: available in Spanish and English.

• Open to any breeder, whether or not a member of the IBC or BETTACAN.
  
  

Registration fees per fish:

BETTACAN members → €1.5 / fish

IBC members              → €2.5 / fish

Other participants        → €3.5 / fish

Payment:

• Payment must be made within 7 days after registering the fish.

3. Categories and standards

• All tail types and colors, males and females, recognized in the IBC standard will be accepted.
  
  

• The judge may reassign a fish to the correct class based on the specimen presented at the show.
  
  

• Legal restriction (Spain): Wild bettas are not allowed due to Animal Welfare regulations. Classes E8, E9, F1, and F2 of IBC Area 2 are therefore excluded.
  
  

4. Reception and delivery of specimens

Reception dates:

Wednesday, November 19  

from 16:00 to  20:00h

Thursday, November 20
from 10:00 to 13:30h and from 16:00 to 20:00h

Friday, November 21
from 10:00 to 13:30h and from 16:00 to 20:00h

Delivery methods:

• In-person delivery by the participant or an authorized person.

• Authorized carrier.

• Courier/mail shipment (costs borne by the breeder). Please, ask BETTACAN in advance.
  
  

The organization is not responsible for damages or deaths during transport.

5. Grounds for disqualification

• Failure to meet the own breeding requirement.

• Presentation of sick or unfit specimens.

• Failure to comply with IBC standards (e.g. Glow/transgenic fish, unrecognized varieties, etc.).

• Inappropriate behavior that disrupts the event.
  
  

6. Animal welfare and health

• An official veterinarian will be present throughout the event.

• All tanks will be filled with bottled mineral water.

• Fish showing symptoms will be placed in quarantine.

• In case of death, the breeder will be notified with a video.

Each breeder is responsible for presenting fish in perfect health.

7. Judging

Activities during judging:

• Seminars for judge trainees.

• Supervised practices with prior authorization from BETTACAN.
  
  

Room rules:

• Silence.

• Comments or interruptions may lead to disqualification.

• Explanations or questions will be allowed at the end of each class, at the judge’s discretion.
  
  

8. Awards

🏆 Best of Show (BOS) – Best fish of the contest
🏆 Reserve Best of Show (RBOS) – Second best fish
🎖️ Best of Variety (BOV) – Best fish within each variety
🎖️ Reserve Best of Variety (RBOV) – Second best fish within each variety
📜 Certificates for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class

👉 Standards and classes will follow official IBC regulations.

9. Auctions, transfers and return of fish

• Any auction, sale or transfer during the event is strictly prohibited.

• Transactions must take place outside the contest dates and without relation to BETTACAN.

• Return of fish at the end of the event will only be made to the registered breeder or the authorized carrier.
  
  

10. Data protection

• Data will be used exclusively for event organization and accommodation management.

• Results will be published with the breeder’s name and the winning category.

• Data will only be shared with the IBC for official records.
